10 WAYS TO BE SELFLESS THIS WEEK(END)
I’ve discovered that a quick and easy way to get out of my head is being kind to others. When I start feeling buried in thoughts, worries, burdens that aren’t even mine, there’s something in me— I like to think it’s the Holy Spirit— that tells me, “Nadi, snap out of it! Look around, who can you serve?” Serving others and showing kindness doesn’t always look the same. We are all so unique in our needs and talents that there are so many ways to express our love to others. Here are 10 quick and easy ideas to be selfless this week:
1.Do the dishes for your mom. (My mom suggested this one haha)
2.Watch someone’s kids for free. You’d be surprised what a gift a night-off is for parents.
3.Drive someone around for their errands.
4.Call someone to encourage them. I love to hear what God is speaking into my friends’ lives and enjoy sharing what He’s been doing in mine. I always feel so encouraged after those uplifting phone calls.
5.Serve a meal to your loved ones. Surprise your parents with breakfast in bed or make lunch as a family after church.
6.Give someone the ingredients to make dinner. (Tacos are so easy and so yummy!) I’m sure you know someone who would greatly appreciate a basket with all the ingredients needed to make a home cooked meal. You’ll give them the gift of a meal as well as an opportunity to make memories as a family.
7.Arrive early to church and lend a helping hand to whoever needs it. It doesn’t matter if it’s not your weekend to serve, show up early anyway and help organize the nursery, set up the green room, or just stand at the door and welcome everyone with a hug and a smile. ;)
8.Clean out your closet and donate clothes. There’s someone who is needing that jacket you never use! ;)
9.Take coffee to the volunteers on Sunday morning. I’ve had friends surprise me with a Soy Vanilla Latte on a Sunday morning and LET ME TELL YOU…that Sunday I served the Lord a little more excellently.
10. Team up with a few friends to clean someone’s house. Years ago, three ladies from church told my mom they wanted to come to our house and do spring cleaning. My mom, a mom of three, a full time pastor, excitedly accepted. We were so blessed by their kindness. In just a few hours they cleaned what would have taken us all week. We had a clean house, peace of mind and more time to do the things we love, thanks to them. P.S. If you’re single, my mom says this is a great way to learn and train yourself to be a good wife/husband!
That’s it for today friends! Smile big, sing a song and jump around…OUR GOD IS A GOOD GOD!
