Hi, welcome!

Beth: The Power of Choices

Beth: The Power of Choices

Hey! My name is Beth, I was born and have grown up in the North of England.

I feel so privileged to be able to share with you a theme that God has used to speak to my life in a deep way, the power of our choices.

One thing that I LOVE to learn and think about is the creativity of God; I’m so amazed by His unique touches and love for detail. We can see the theme running all throughout the Bible. God who made the heavens and the earth is the same God who formed us each in our mother's womb. He’s the One who made us each with our individual personalities for a unique and personal relationship with Him - it’s incredible to think about! He chose the family that He would place us in before time began, how we’d smile, the colour of our eyes, etc. And so we all grow up and walk through life with our unique experiences.

Each of us has a different story, things we’ve been through, and faced throughout our life. We all experience things at the consequence of other people's choices. And sometimes our biggest challenge can be to move forward. But God loves to make things new, He loves to restore and make whole. Look at how God talks about it here in Isaiah 43:18-19:

‘Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up, do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.’

Many times our experiences from the past are the very reason we don’t move forward. But this scripture is clear, DO NOT hold onto the past. Don’t dwell on it, don’t worry about it, in fact just forget it completely! WOW! Truly, God’s desire for us is to experience all things being made new! The One who has seen all our errors, mistakes, pain, and experiences is the very same One who tells us to let go of it all and SEE the new thing that He is doing!

I’m not saying that it’s always easy, believe me, often it's not. But, what’s powerful is that God gives us the choice. I wrote down some choices that I’ve been thinking about recently;

  • I can choose how I respond to the challenges I face

  • I can choose how I respond to people

  • I can choose to forgive

  • I can choose to believe God’s promises for me and my family

  • I can choose to obey God with faith

  • I can choose to dream

  • I can choose to be open with God and my leaders

  • I can choose to ask for help from God and others

  • I can choose to seek God for healing and freedom

  • I can choose my friends and those I surround myself with

  • I can choose to trust God even when I don’t understand

I think it’s so beautiful that God could force us to choose His way yet He doesn’t. He wants us to choose His way out of love, faith, and surrender because He loves us and He knows what’s best for us. We always have a choice.

I can choose to not be a victim of what I’ve experienced. There’s this line that my mum always says to me, “If you run away, the problem will still be there because the problem is inside of you!” Ouch.

I want to encourage you that today can be the day where you choose to move forward. No matter what you might have faced or experienced in the past or will experience, Jesus is the One who promises to walk with us through it all if we only open our lives to let Him speak, guide, love, heal and form us! It’s the most powerful and life-transforming choice we can make to surrender to Jesus each and every day.

A good place to start;

  • Ask Jesus what choices you can make today that will help you move forward and grow.

  • Take some time to pray and open your heart before Jesus, surrender what He is showing you that you’ve held onto, and allow Him to fill you with new hope and peace.

  • Dream for the future! Collect pictures, stick them in a book, visualise your dreams!

  • Do something today to sow into your tomorrow. Start saving, do something to work towards your dreams.

God bless you,

Beth
